KITCHEN

The kitchen for the house was located in the basement area and was outfitted with the most up-to-date equipment. The cook arose early in the morning, stoked the embers in the coal stove and prepared for a busy day of cooking and baking. The kitchen was the primary domain of the cook and she kept everything clean and tidy.

The younger children and the servants gathered around the kitchen table to have their meals. A small pantry is connected to the kitchen and exhibits everything from crocks, cherry pitters, apple peelers to cookie cutters, egg whisks and kraut cutters. Like the kitchen, the pantry was well supplied with everything the cook might need to prepare and preserve food for the family that lived upstairs.
